Glynn County Recreation and Parks Director, Lisa Gurganus, was named the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) 2026 Hall of Fame inductee on November 4 during a ceremony in Athens.
The Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Hall of Fame is the highest honor awarded by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association to recognize individuals or organizations with extraordinary and unusual contributions to parks, recreation, or conservation in Georgia.
Lisa came to Glynn County in 2017 after working for 20 years for Alpharetta’s recreation and parks department. She graduated from Clemson with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management and began her career with the recreation department of Isle of Palms, S.C. prior to moving to Alpharetta then to Glynn County.
Her job as Glynn’s director includes managing the department’s daily operations, budgets, and strategic planning. She oversees maintenance, upgrades, and construction of county-wide parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and regional spaces including St. Simons Island parks, Selden Park, and Blythe Island Regional Park.
She manages a large team of division managers, program coordinators, park coordinators, and maintenance staff. She also coordinates public recreational activities, sports leagues, arts clubs and specialized community services.
Congratulations Lisa on a well deserved honor.
