The most recent Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) inmate population report lists 1,888 criminal illegal alien offenders from 80 countries with active deportation detainers as of September 30, 2026.
This number reports criminal illegal aliens who are currently in state correctional facilities. It does not include those housed in county and municipal jails.
Mexico is the country of origin for 1,061 state inmates. Guatemala has the second highest number at 200, followed by Honduras at 132 and El Salvador with 116.
Rounding out the top ten are Jamaica at 53, Dominican Republic at 31, Cuba at 24, Colombia at 23, Vietnam at 18, and Venezuela at 15.
Other countries in double-digits for criminal alien inmates in Georgia state correctional facilities include Haiti at 13 and India at 10.
The list of leading violent offenses committed by the 1,888 criminal illegal aliens in the state system includes 259 counts of child molestation, 208 counts of rape, and 201 counts of murder.
There were 151 cases of aggravated assault, 124 counts of aggravated child molestation, 69 cases of armed robbery, 61 cases of statutory rape, 52 cases of voluntary manslaughter, 44 cases of kidnapping, 32 cases of aggravated sexual battery, and 31 cases of incest.
There were 190 cases of trafficking methamphetamine, 65 for cocaine, and 33 for narcotics.
Illegal alien inmate offenses included 26 cases of vehicular homicide and four cases of hit-and-run with injury/fatality.
In addition to these, the list of more than one hundred criminal offenses committed by the state’s current criminal illegal alien inmate population included stalking, racketeering, robbery, theft, carjacking, cruelty to animals, and gang activity.
According to the GDC website, the average annual cost per inmate was $31,614 in FY 2024, or nearly $87 per day.
Based on the latest count, taxpayers foot a bill of nearly $60 million each year, or more than $164,000 a day, to house 1,888 criminal illegal aliens in state facilities. This cost is likely higher when specialized support services are factored in such as interpreters.
