The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® recently awarded a $12,836 grant to Glynn County Fire Rescue (GCFR) to purchase 504 Lithium-Ion Smoke Detector Units for community distribution.
The new smoke detectors will enable GCFR to ensure that all homes have working smoke detectors regardless of the residents’ financial status or ability to pay.
“We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs® restaurant in Brunswick for this vital support,” said Vincent DiCristofalo, Chief of GCFR. “Smoke alarms are essential to keeping our community safe by providing early warning of fires and giving families valuable time to escape and call for help.”
In other GCFR news week three of the GCFR Citizens Fire Academy is underway and focusing on EMS. For questions or information about future academy cycles, contact D’Kel Walker at 912-802-0440 or via email at dkel.walker@glynncounty-ga.gov.
According to Chief DiCristofalo calls have increased 5% over the past year; 73% of those calls were for EMS service. Eleven firefighter recruits will begin the Fire Academy right here in Brunswick on Monday.
Earlier this month GCFR conducted two smoke alarm blitzes; one in the Deer Run neighborhood on St. Simons Island and one on Gressel Circle in Brunswick.
Firefighters visited 84 homes, gave out 81 smoke detectors, and discovered nine homes with no smoke detectors.
