The Mainland Planning Commission approved adding Live-work as a special use to the Zoning Ordinance 4.2.2 as a special use in certain commercial zoning districts and to Section 4.3.1 to modify the definition and use standards for the Live-work use. This was done during their Oct. 6 meeting.
The county-initiated amendment requested adding Live-work as a special use in Office Commercial (OC), Local Commercial (LC), General Commercial (GC), and Medical Commercial (MED). The building was to include commercial on the ground floor and residential on the upper levels: 50% of the building’s use must be commercial.
The amendment makes mixed use available.
The Islands Planning Commission has approved the amendment but clarified that residential is only allowed on the upper floors.
Commissioner Missy Neu had an issue with only allowing residential on the upper floors. The MPC ended up putting no restrictions on the locations of commercial or residential within a building including floor or front or rear of the building.
The amendment goes to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners next.
