Former Glynn County Fire Chief passes
Former Fire Chief Carl Johnson
Retired Glynn County Fire Rescue Chief and former County Commissioner Carl Johnson Sr. died on Monday, July 27.
Chief Johnson dedicated more than three decades to Glynn County Fire Rescue after beginning his career in 1971. Through his leadership, hard work and commitment to public safety, he rose through the ranks and served as Fire Chief from 1992 until his retirement in 2004.
After retiring from the fire service, Johnson continued serving the citizens of Glynn County as a County Commissioner from 2006 to 2010, further demonstrating his lifelong dedication to public service.
“Chief Johnson dedicated his life to serving the people of Glynn County, both as a firefighter and as an elected official,” said Fire Chief Vinny DiCristofalo. “His leadership, integrity and commitment to this community left a lasting impression on our department and on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Johnson family and will honor his legacy by continuing the service he exemplified.”
The community is invited to honor Chief Johnson’s life and legacy on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Bay Harbor Church of God, located at 3210 U.S. Highway 82, Brunswick. Visitation begins at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m.
Glynn County extends its deepest condolences to the Johnson family and asks the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Chief Johnson’s legacy of service, leadership and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of firefighters, public servants and community leaders.
