Construction is finished on the 967 foot elevated boardwalk linking the end of Driftwood Drive on St. Simons Island to the beach and is officially open to the public. The new boardwalk replaced the previous public access structure which no longer reached the beach.

The updated design provides a safer and more accessible route for beachgoers while protecting environmentally sensitive areas, including the sand dune system.
The project,  constructed by Shropshire Built and funded through the County’s Multi-Year Capital Projects Fund, cost $657,479 to build and came in on schedule and within the budget.
