America’s Boating Club Golden Isles to host ‘tides program’

America’s Boating Club Golden Isles will present “Georgia’s Amazing Tides: Why Our Coast Works the Way It Does,” an educational program on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the University of Georgia Marine Extension, 715 Bay Street in Brunswick. Cynthia Lamb, Commander of America’s Boating Club Golden Isles, will lead the presentation.

Twice each day, the waters surrounding Georgia’s Golden Isles undergo a remarkable landscape transformation as vast stretches of marsh disappear beneath rising water only to return hours later. Georgia’s tidal range is one of the most dramatic on the Atlantic Coast, yet many people know surprisingly little about why they occur or how profoundly they influence coastal life.

Lamb said, “whether you are a lifelong coastal resident, a new waterfront homeowner, a recreational boater, or simply curious about the unique environment of Georgia’s coast, this informative evening will provide practical knowledge that can make time on the water safer and more enjoyable.”

Attendees will learn why the Golden Isles experiences such a large tidal range and how those powerful tides affect navigation, boating safety, fishing, wildlife, and the health of Georgia’s vast salt marsh ecosystem. The program will also explain how to read tide tables and charts, giving attendees practical skills they can use every time they venture onto local waters.

For America’s Boating Club Golden Isles, the presentation reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to boating education and community service. Through educational programs, boating courses, and hands-on activities, the nonprofit organization helps recreational boaters gain the knowledge and confidence needed to enjoy Coastal Georgia’s waterways safely.
