At no cost to the taxpayers west Glynn County will get 29 miles of new natural gas pipeline with construction to start the end of August.
Mark Clay, Manager – Economic Development and South Georgia Government Affairs, Southern Company Gas, discussed the natural gas infrastructure expansion and future Glynn County development projects during the Glynn County Board of Commissioners (BOC) Special called meeting Tuesday, July 21.
$30 million from the Universal Service Fund will pay for the pipeline.
Clay said the new pipeline will serve 2,800 new homes as well as the Tradewinds Technology Park which is a 757-acre industrial development located off Interstate 95 (Exit 42) and Hwy 99.
The pipe line will begin near the railroad tracks on Perry Lane Road, go north on Perry Lane to Cate Rd. to Golden Isles Parkway to the Grand Dunes Subdivision; north on Highway 99 and serve Tradewinds Technology Park and the new D.R. Horton (Pointe Villas) subdivision.
Clay said the pipeline would open up Glynn County to more manufacturing companies. “Most manufacturing companies looking to relocate to Georgia use natural gas,” Clay said. “The pipeline will help in recruiting business to that area.”
In response to a question from the BOC, Clay said the pipeline was not large enough to support a data center.
