Glynn County Receives APWA Project of the Year Award for Canal Road and Glynco Parkway Roundabout

The American Public Works Association (APWA) has presented Glynn County with the 2026 Project of the Year Award in the Transportation $5–$25 Million category by for the Canal Road and Glynco Parkway Roundabout.

The roundabout was completed in October 2025 and replaces an intersection that had long been challenging for drivers due to its sharp angle and heavy traffic. The project introduced a multi‑lane roundabout, widened and straightened the roads leading into it, and shifted approximately 1,700 feet of Harry Driggers Boulevard to create a safer connection with Glynco Parkway.

These improvements make the intersection easier to navigate and help traffic flow more smoothly for residents, visitors, and commercial traffic.

The project was funded by SPLOST 2022 with support from Georgia Department of Transportation grants and connects to earlier improvements made through SPLOST 2016.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that road improvements are the product of careful, long‑term planning,” said Board Chairman Wayne Neal. “Projects like this represent our ongoing investment in maintaining a transportation network that remains reliable and ready to meet future needs.”

County Manager William Fallon agreed, “This was an important traffic improvement and safety project that was funded by SPLOST and GDOT. This was a meaningful investment in our community that will benefit our residents and visitors for many years to come.”

APWA also recognized Adam Cothren, Glynn County’s Field Engineering Division Manager, as the 2026 Engineering and Technology Manager of the Year. This national award highlights Adam’s leadership, innovation, and dedication to strengthening Glynn County’s infrastructure and public services.

We appreciate this recognition and are proud of the progress taking place across Glynn County as we continue our commitment to projects that enhance safety, mobility, and quality of life for our community.
