The City of Brunswick will kick in $200,000 toward the funding of Phases III and IV of the College Park drainage project.
The total project cost is $11.7 million. Glynn County will contribute $1 million from additional SPLOST funds toward the project.
The County has applied for a CDBG-DR grant totaling $10.7 million to cover the cost of the project.
$50 million in grant funding from HUD (Dept. of Housing and Urban Development) from Hurricane Helene is available through the Georgia Dept. of Community Affairs (DCA).
According to Monica Hardin, Glynn County’s Grants Coordinator, there are 31 entities in Georgia are applying for this money. Her recommendation to the County was to increase their funding from $500,000 to $1 million.
Phase III includes construction of a large box culvert between Old Cypress Mill Rd. and Altama Avenue and will connect to a culvert installed during Phase I.
Phase IV includes drainage improvements and pipe crossings along Old Cypress Mill Rd. which will convey runoff toward the Phase III box culvert.
The City Commission approved the grant submission and a partnership agreement with Glynn County during their Sept. 16 commission meeting.
The Glynn County Board of Commissioners approved the grant application and adopted a resolution committing the funds for the College Park project from additional SPLOST 2022 collections during their Sept. 17 meeting.
