Surely it is every parent’s dream to have a child join them in their business.

The Edward Jones financial advisor office in Edwards Plaza on St. Simons Island became a family office earlier this summer when Mark David Johnson joined his mother Ginny Johnson as a financial advisor.

Mark David is a Glynn Academy graduate and received his Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis on psychology from the College of Coastal Georgia.

“The psychology helps me understand the why behind the money,” Mark David said. “It allows me to help clients discover more purpose for their money; maybe consider ideas they haven’t thought of previously.”

“The psychology also helps with asking people questions and discovering how I can help them.”

Mark David chose Edward Jones because he has been around the business for much of his life. “I see how well the company operates and how good Edward Jones has been to my family.”

“My mother enjoys the business, and it is a great company to work for,” he said.

“While Edward Jones is a large company, the offices have a local feel but with the personnel and resources of a large firm,” he said.

Mark David joined Edward Jones in March and began their intense study program. “It was Monday through Saturday non stop study,” he said.

He officially went to work in the Edwards Plaza office on June 29.

“My mother was a definite influence in me joining Edward Jones. She wants to eventually pass on the office to someone she trusts,” he said.

Both Ginny and Mark David spend time educating their clients and helping them make complex financial decisions easy to understand.

“We help clients make the decisions that are best for them – the individual. We help each client create an individual investment plan,” he said.

“It is easy to come in and talk to us. It’s doesn’t cost anything,” he said.

“I am always looking for ways to help our clients. My goal is to become a more trusted name in the community in my new endeavor,” Mark David said.
