Glynn County Animal Services Welcomes Dr. Sydney Burke as Staff Veterinarian

Glynn County Animal Services has announced that Sydney Burke, DVM, has joined the department as its new staff veterinarian.
Dr. Burke brings specialized training and extensive hands-on experience in shelter medicine, high-volume surgery, infectious disease management, population health, and community veterinary care.
Dr. Burke earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2025 and recently completed a yearlong Shelter Medicine Specialty Internship through the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Her advanced training focused on the unique medical and population-management needs of animal shelters and municipal animal welfare organizations.
“Shelter medicine is about caring for individual animals while also looking at the health and welfare of the entire population,” Dr. Burke said. “I am excited to bring my training and experience to Glynn County Animal Services and to work alongside the staff and community to provide compassionate, practical care for the animals who need us most.”
As staff veterinarian, Dr. Burke will support the medical care and welfare of animals at Glynn County Animal Services while helping strengthen the agency’s shelter-medicine and population-health programs. Her expertise will support disease prevention, surgical and medical care, animal welfare, public health, and community-based efforts to improve outcomes for animals and their owners throughout Glynn County.
Dr. Burke’s professional background includes work with leading animal welfare and shelter organizations across the country, including the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, ASPCA, PAWS Chicago, Anti-Cruelty, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, EveryPet, and the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center.
She is a member of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, and American Veterinary Medical Association, and is certified in Fear Free and Fear Free Shelters practices.
Dr. Burke also holds an active Georgia veterinary license and USDA Category I accreditation.
