Glynn County’s Assistant County Manager Danny Smith told the media yesterday that the German Village survey was 95% complete.
Smith’s discussion came during the monthly media roundtable meeting Wednesday, August 12.
In November 2025 the county held a public meeting for German Village residents to discuss the survey work the county planned for German Village and why.
The problem is that the land within the subdivision is short by about 120 feet, leading to lot line disputes and confusion by residents and the county on the location of streets.
Despite the ongoing confusion documented and acknowledged by the county commissioners and staff in agendas and memos for decades, the county has continued to issue building permits throughout the subdivision.
According to Smith one current builder has built into the right-of-way.
Smith said he will spend next week looking into right-of-way encroachments.
“Some encroachments are more egregious than others,” he said. “I have talked to a few homeowners already,” he continued. “But I encourage those that I have not spoken with to get in touch with me.”
Smith plans another public meeting toward the end of September with German Village residents to discuss the right-of-way encroachments and plans to open up the streets.
Future plans for the streets are to remove the brush and improve them with rock material as the budget permits.
“The whole point,” Smith said, “is to facilitate access for the residents and public safety vehicles.”
