Brunswick Police Department Expands Public Safety Technology with Fusus by Axon Camera System

The Brunswick Police Department has expanded its public safety technology network through the deployment of the Fusus by Axon camera system at strategic public locations throughout the City of Brunswick. The department secured an approximately $1 million grant through the State of Georgia Office of Planning and Budget’s Public Safety and Community Violence Reduction Grant Program to support the expansion of public safety technology. This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety by leveraging technology to help deter criminal activity, strengthen investigative efforts, and improve emergency response capabilities. By providing officers with valuable, real-time information, the

system enhances the department’s ability to protect and serve residents, visitors, and businesses throughout the community.
The system is integrated with the Brunswick Police Department’s existing Axon technology ecosystem, which includes body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, and other public safety tools. A key feature of the system is its direct integration with the 911 Communications Center. During active emergencies, dispatchers can view nearby cameras and relay real-time information to responding officers, helpimprove coordination, enhance situational awareness, reduce response times, and strengthen both officer and community safety.
“The safety of our community remains our highest priority, and these cameras are additional tools that will help us prevent crime, solve cases, and provide the level of service our citizens expect and deserve,” said Chief Angela Smith.
The Brunswick Police Department recognizes the importance of balancing public safety with individual privacy. The system is intended to support investigations and emergency response and is not continuously monitored. The City of Brunswick owns and controls all data collected through the system, and the information is securely stored using encryption. Access to camera footage is limited to City of Brunswick authorized personnel and is permitted only for legitimate public safety purposes, including criminal investigations and active emergency response. Department policies govern the access, use, and retention of camera data to ensure accountability and transparency.
The deployment of the Fusus by Axon camera system reflects the Brunswick Police Department’s commitment to using technology responsibly while continuing to build trust with the community.
