For the most part Glynn residents and tourists attending the July 4 festivities at the Pier last week were well behaved.
During yesterday’s (July 8) Glynn County media roundtable meeting Glynn County Police Chief Bryan Sipe reported 97 stops, including four DUI arrests, were made by his officers during the weekend.
Since Memorial Day, Glynn County Police officers have made 2,200 stops including 119 golf carts and 19 E-bikes.
Sipe pointed out that an E motorbike is not an E-bike and does not belong on the sidewalk.
Glynn police are currently conducting a stepped up safety campaign to slow down drivers.
The next Youth Academy is scheduled for July 20 for ages 12 – 16 and space is available.
The Academy will be held at the Glynn County Police Dept., 157 Carl alexander Way, Brunswick from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. until noon on Friday.
For applications contact Captain Shawn Strohl at sstrohl@glynncounty-ga.gov or call 912-554-7800.
Glynn County Fire Rescue Chief Vincent DiCristofalo’s six month incident report from January through June included 10,091 incidents.
These included 421 fire responses; 7,578 medical responses; 52 rescues.
Capital and SPLOST projects
A design contract has been issued for the Perry Lane Road project which includes bridge replacement and road widening. The bridge over Burnett Creek was built in 1965 and is permanently load-posted under outdated design standards.
A January 2026 GDOT inspection found that the posting stems from the bridge’s original capacity and can only be corrected by replacing it. This project plans to replace the existing bridge with a wider bridge rated for modern legal loads and emergency vehicles, and to widen Perry Lane Road to four lanes for added capacity and better drainage. THis is a SPLOST 2022 Tier 1 project with an $8.3 million budget.
