Glynn Academy’s baseball playoff run ended Friday at Pope. The Terrors fell in both games Friday 6-0 and 9-4. The series capped a remarkable run that saw the Terrors advancing to the Elite 8. The Brunswick High Pirates are still alive and in the Final Four after their sweep of Coffee on Thursday. Their next challenge is going to be against Loganville in the semi-finals this Friday at home, with a double header starting at 5. Game three if necessary will be Saturday 1.
Thursday afternoon, Brantley County Deputies were called to deal with a man with outstanding warrants. When they tried to arrest him he fled in a vehicle and then involved them in what is described as an “altercation.” During this incident deputies fired their weapons, killing the individual, whose name is not being released at this time. The GBI is investigating the shooting.
Canvas, a cloud-based digital hub for classrooms that has 30 million users, was hacked last week in a ransomware scheme. The system was down for several hours, just at the time when many students are preparing for finals. While many colleges, universities, and K-12 public school systems in Georgia use Canvas, the Glynn County School system does not use Canvas and was therefore unaffected. Georgia Virtual Schools, however was affected. A hacking group called ShinyHunters has taken responsibility for the hack.
The Brantley County Highway 82 fire has risen to 90 percent contained as crews continue mop up operations.
