Georgia’s EMCs Take Proactive Steps to Prepare for Potential Power Outages from Hurricane Isaias

From NOAA as of 1 pm Friday, Oct. 9. 2026
(TUCKER, Ga., Oct. 9, 2026, 1:30 PM) Georgia Press Assn —As Hurricane Isaias makes landfall on the Gulf Coast, Georgia’s Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs) are on high alert and are prepared to respond to its impacts.
The storm is projected to impact the southwest portion of Georgia beginning Friday afternoon, moving northeast through the state, bringing heavy rains, strong winds and the potential for tornadoes. With sustained winds up to 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, power outages are likely.
In preparation, Georgia’s EMCs have mobilized all key personnel and additional contract crews, prepared trucks with emergency equipment and increased supplies of materials to expedite restoration efforts. Key staff members are actively coordinating with other emergency service providers, including EMAs, police, fire and public works, to ensure a unified response.
Georgia’s EMCs have been in regular contact with their fellow electric cooperatives across the state and country to get additional help and support to the areas most impacted. Once power has been safely restored in Georgia, they stand ready to offer assistance to EMCs in other states impacted by the storm.
As EMCs will continue to watch Hurricane Isaias closely, EMC members are reminded to stay updated on the storm’s development and to take every precaution as the state experiences its effects.
