Glynn County Fire Rescue Crews Rescue Man from Deer Run Villas Fire
Glynn County Fire Rescue firefighters and EMTs rescued a man from a residence in Deer Run Villas on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and stopped the fire from spreading to other condominiums.
After a neighbor reported a fire, firefighters from GCFR Station 4 arrived within four minutes. The neighbor told responders that the home’s occupant had been seen earlier but not since the fire began. Crews searched for the resident and found the man just inside the front door. EMTs provided medical assistance as crews fought the fire.
The man was transported to UF Health Shands in Gainesville for burn treatment. He is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Glynn County Fire Rescue credits the crew’s quick response, preparation, and training with helping rescue the man and preventing the fire from spreading. The department extends its appreciation to the firefighter/EMTs of Station 4.
Firefighters Rescue Driver from Submerged Vehicle
Early Tuesday morning, September 29, Glynn County Fire Rescue Station 3 responded to a single-vehicle crash on Oak Grove Road after a pickup truck drove into a pond. When crews arrived, the truck was nearly completely submerged. Firefighters planned the rescue while en route. On arrival, they made contact with the driver, removed a window, and freed him just before the last pocket of air inside the cab disappeared.
The driver did not need to be transported to the hospital. Battalion Chief Kevin Pennington praised the Station 3 crew’s response. “The whole crew really did a good job,” he said, singling out Firefighter Ryan Mayton, who drew on his prior water-rescue training and acted immediately. “He made the biggest difference in that whole situation,” Pennington said.
Glynn County Fire Rescue thanks the Firefighter/EMTs of Station 3 for their swift, skilled response, which helped bring the driver to safety.
