More than 100 people attended Saturday’s multi Agency information center to assist those who need help as a result of the Brantley County Highway 82 Fire. The center included GEMA and Homeland Security who were on hand, along with Faith based organizations, The Red Cross, the Brantley School Systems, representatives from the Board of Commissioners, Family Connection, and other support partners. There are more information centers planned to assist those just returning home and as more resources become available.
In the meantime, all voluntary evacuations have been lifted for Glynn County residents. Saturday’s rainfall of over an inch helped firefighters ensure progress. The fire is now 75% contained as of today.
A Glynn County Police Supervisor was responding to a call Friday, when his vehicle collided with another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment, but succumbed Saturday to injuries sustained in the crash. The Georgia State Patrol is taking the lead in the crash investigation.
Both the Brunswick High Pirates and the Glynn Academy Red Terrors have made it to the elite 8 in the state baseball playoff. Brunswick swept Milton Friday, winning game 1 15-5 and taking the nightcap 15-2. It’s the first time Brunswick High Baseball has made it past the second round. Next, they’ll face Coffee at home on Friday. Glynn Academy’s trip to Gainesville was just as fruitful as they swept the Red Elephant, winning game 1 4-3 and taking game 2 11-4. It’s the first time both schools have made the elite 8 in Baseball. Glynn will go on the road Friday to take on Pope.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is this Friday in Downtown Brunswick. There’ll be a 5k, a car show, and of course a survivors walk and a luminary ceremony to remember those who have battled cancer. FOr more information visit relayforlife.org/glynn.
