Updating the media yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, April 22), Brantley County officials said that 54 homes have been lost in the fire which grew over the course of the day due to the winds in the area and the lower humidity of late morning hours. 75 people are said to have lost their homes so far.  The fire is at 10% containment with over 5,000 acres burned. One firefighter is said to have suffered minor injuries. Brantley County schools will be closed once again today. 

Yesterday the Governor ordered a state of emergency for 91 counties in South Georgia due to the outbreak of wildfires. The declaration will enable the state to provide more resources than they were already providing.

Around 6:45 last evening the southbound lane of the Sidney Lanier Bridge was closed due to reports of a person allegedly spotted climbing the tower on the bridge. Brunswick Police checked the area, while the Coast Guard checked the water. As of last evening there was no evidence of someone on the bridge.

Georgia Cities Week continues today as Keep Golden Isles Beautiful will be sponsoring a Neighborhood Clean Out from 9 to 4 and then a neighborhood Clean Up from 4 to 5.
