Pole mounted Red Speed camera
The Brunswick City Commission has approved the use of two Red Speed School Zone Cameras which will ticket speeders at Goodyear Elementary and Brunswick High School (BHS).
According to Brunswick Police Chief Angela Smith recent studies have shown a large number of speeders in school zones, especially around Goodyear and BHS.
Note: both of these schools are on four lane major roads.
The commission’s approval came during Wednesday’s (Sept. 2) meeting.
The video cameras will send tickets to violators after Red Speed employees and a Brunswick Police Department officer verify the video before Red Speed sends out the ticket.
The first violation is $75; subsequent violations are $125.
According to Police Chief Angela Smith the program is “violator funded.” There are no up front costs for the city. Red Speed covers the cost of all equipment, installation, repairs, and customer service in exchange for 35% of the citation revenue after the initial three-month period.
The city will receive 100% of citation revenue for the first three months of use.
