Arrest made in Sunday night shooting

On Sunday, August 16,  shortly after midnight, officers patrolling Bay Street heard a gunshot coming from an area near their location.

Officers immediately began checking the surrounding area and saw a male fleeing from the area. He was quickly detained.

Other officers located a male in the 1500 block of Grant Street with a gunshot wound. The male succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being held pending notification to the next of kin.

As a result of the subsequent investigation, the detained male was identified as Jason Middlebrooks, 20, of Brunswick. Middlebrooks was arrested and charged with:

• Murder

• Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime

• Aggravated Assault

• Theft by Taking of a Firearm

• Theft by Taking of a Motor Vehicle

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting Brunswick Police Criminal Investigations with this incident. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
