Applicants sought for state student advisory council

Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods seeks students in grades 10-12 for his 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council.

Students serving on the council will meet with the Superintendent on state classroom policies and other education-related issues. Members also serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their home schools.

Superintendent Woods stated, “The Student Advisory Council allows me to hear directly from young people about their experiences, challenges, and ideas for the future of education in Georgia. These students serve as ambassadors for their schools and communities, and their perspectives help ensure student voices remain at the center of our work. I encourage eligible students from across Georgia to apply and share their unique viewpoints.”

The Council includes students representing each of Georgia’s Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) areas, as well as a variety of schools and communities across the state.

The Advisory Council meets four times in person during the school year.

Student Advisory Council members are also required to participate in a service project of their choice as part of their commitment.

Georgia students in grades 10-12 who are enrolled in public, private, or homeschool programs are eligible to apply.

Because the Superintendent seeks a range of students with unique perspectives, there is no required GPA to participate.

The application includes short essay prompts that allow students to share their ideas for public education.
