Coast Guard Beach Parking Lot to Open Memorial Day as Construction Progresses

The parking lot at Coast Guard Beach Park will open to the public on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, as construction continues on broader park improvements.

Crews have made steady progress on Scope A, which includes the parking lot and stormwater improvements. With this phase nearing completion, the County is preparing to open the parking area for public use in time for the holiday weekend.
Landscaping, irrigation installation, and building construction will continue on site after the parking lot opens to the public. Portable restrooms will be available for public use.
The full project includes expanded parking, drainage upgrades, ADA‑accessible facilities, new walkways, dune restoration, and construction of the new three‑story lifeguard tower. It is being delivered in two phases. Scope A began in September 2025 and is scheduled to wrap up this spring. Scope B, which includes the new lifeguard tower and broader park improvements, began in November 2025 and is expected to be complete in early 2027.
This work is supported by a $1 million DNR Lifesaving Tower grant, a $3 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program grant, and $3.4 million in Capital Projects funding, bringing the overall project budget to approximately $7.4 million.
Local partners continue to play a key role in the project’s progress. J Heirs Construction is completing the parking lot and drainage work, and Lang Building Supply is providing the lumber, masonry, and truss package.
