The Department of Public Health (DPH) is monitoring two Georgians who have returned home from a trip aboard the MV Hondius, the cruise ship that is experiencing a hantavirus outbreak. A DPH spokesperson said that the residents are in good health and are currently showing no signs of infection, also that they are following the recommendations and prosedures the CDC has laid out. At least one of the Georgians being monitored, we’ve learned, is a local resident.

Over the weekend, surveillance cameras at a property off Highway 99 captured a man stealing items from the premises. Deploying both a K9 and a drone, the man, a white male matching the man caught on camera, was located in the marsh. He has been identified as Robert Byrd. He has been arrested and charged with Possession of Tools in the Commission of a Crime, a felony, as well as Criminal Trespass.

Tomorrow evening Relay for Life will be held in Downtown Brunswick from 6 until 10. A few of the  numerous activities will be a 5k race, a car show, a survivors lap, and a luminary ceremony. Relay for Life is the biggest local fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Once again that will be from 6 until 10 in Downtown Brunswick.

The person kills over the weekend in a collision with a county police vehicle has been identified as 64 year old Patricia Tapley of Brunswick.
