Jekyll Island residents and guests are asked to  be advised that the Jekyll Island Convention Center will host two high school graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, May 22. Brunswick High School will hold its graduation ceremony at 4 p.m., followed by Glynn Academy’s graduation ceremony at 8:30 p.m.

Due to the short time frame in which these two ceremonies will be held, we ask residents and guests to be aware of the increased traffic flow both coming off and coming on the island. Traffic may be slower than usual and drivers should plan accordingly.

Jekyll Island Authority staff and the Georgia State Patrol will be on-hand to help move traffic along as efficiently and quickly as possible. However, congestion may be experience near the entry way to the Jekyll Island Convention Center parking lot, near Great Dunes Beach parking lots, as well as at the Guest Information Center Entry Plaza. We ask that drivers plan accordingly and we thank you in advance for your patience. 

The Georgia DOT has scheduled a temporary northbound inside lane closure on U.S. 341/S.R. 27 near Gloucester Street in downtown Brunswick in Glynn County. If weather permits the temporary lane closure should begin at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 22. The closures are utilized for maintenance work on the roadway. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this work zone.

For the next eight Saturdays - or until they raise enough money - firefighters from the City of Brunswick Fire Department will be washing cars at the 4th Street Fire Station from 9 a.m. until. The money raised will go toward training and equipment.
