The administrator is responsible for hiring and overseeing all other departments and employees. Stewart currently makes $115,000 per year, plus a $400 per month car allowance and a $45 per month cell phone allowance, along with other benefits. The administrator is also responsible for the county's day to day operations. Commissioner Bob Coleman (At Large #2) reportedly said that he would like to hold "a public forum" so the citizens can ask questions of the final candidates. The Glynn County Board of Education has done this on at least one occasion when hiring a superintendent. According to Georgia law, the commission is required to release the names of the top three candidates once the list of applicants has been reduced to three. In the past, the county has circumvented this by reducing the applicants to the top five and then selecting an administrator. • In other business: During their regular meeting on Thursday, March 4 the County Commission approved a 90-day temporary alcoholic beverage license for Murphy's Tavern under owner Randy Powell's name. The bar has been closed since just before last Thanksgiving due to a dispute between owner Patrice Amerson and Nathan Mobley, now a former owner. In the past the county commission was reluctant to issue the license due to the owners' legal issues, although they did issue a 60-day temporary license to Mobley's wife Misty, back in January. At last week's meeting Amerson did not show up to contest Powell's license and Commissioner Bob Coleman asked what had changed. Police Chief Matt Doering said the parties got together over the controversy on the lease and worked it out. Doering also said the Misty Mobley withdrew her application for the license. County Attorney Aaron Mumford said no one involved had any objections and it appears their differences have been worked out. Randy Powell told The Islander that Mobley turned his 50% share of ownership in the bar back over to Powell. The license was approved on a 5-2 vote with Commissioners Coleman and Howard Lynn (Dist. 4) voting against.
