Sherri Jones to head up historical society
09.06.10 The Coastal Georgia Historical Society announces the appointment of Sherri Jones as its new executive director, effective immediately. She succeeds Patricia Morris, who served as executive director from 2001 to 2010. Jones has been a member of the board of directors since 2009, where she successfully launched the first annual event celebrating a higher category of membership called “Keepers of the Light.” An active volunteer in Brunswick and the Golden Isles, Jones currently serves as president of the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association and is secretary and a member of the executive committee of the St. Simons Land Trust.

5th Annual Shrimp & Grits festival kicks off Sept. 17
09.06.10 On Friday, September 17 Jekyll Island will kickoff the 5th Annual Shrimp and Grits festival featuring this quintessential Southern dish and spotlighting Wild Georgia Shrimp. Held in Jekyll's Historic District, the festival features amateur and professional cooking competitions, shrimp boat excursions, shrimp eating contests, cooking demonstrations, races, and entertainment. In honor of this popular Southern dish, September has officially been declared “Wild Georgia Shrimp Month” on Jekyll Island and the neighboring Golden Isles. Friday night is $3 Shrimp Sample Night. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. participants will have the opportunity to taste recipes from the vendors for $3 per sample.
